Weight-loss starter guide: the first 14 days

By Morad Labrid, Founder of DaizuJuly 25, 20267 min

The first two weeks of weight loss often decide the rest: either you set a simple system, or you stack impossible rules and quit. This guide is a starter checklist — not the full method over six months. For the long-term view, also read “How to lose weight for good” in the Daizu advice.

On day 1, set a realistic deficit: 300 to 500 kcal under your TDEE, to aim for about 0.3 to 0.5 kg per week. More aggressive looks motivating, then breaks sleep, mood, and muscle. If you do not have a number yet, start with the calorie-needs calculator, then choose the low end of the range rather than a crash diet.

Anchor protein (1.6 to 2.2 g/kg) and a visual plate: half vegetables, a quarter protein, a quarter starch, plus a reasonable fat. You do not need to ban pizza to “start well” — you need portions and frequency. Keep one to two framed treat meals over the 14 days to avoid the restriction / binge cycle.

Organization beats willpower. Plan 5 to 7 dinners, accept leftovers, and make a grocery list once. The dangerous moment is still 7 p.m. with no plan: that is when delivery wins. A light batch (protein + vegetables + starch) on Sunday cuts the week’s decisions in half.

Light tracking from the start: one weigh-in per week (same conditions), possibly a waist measurement, and a simple log of slips. Avoid the scale every morning — water and the cycle blur the signal and you “fail” a deficit that is working. Meal photos on the unexpected beat a spreadsheet abandoned on day 6.

Mistakes of the first 14 days: a list of forbidden foods, a total restart after a restaurant, comparing your curve to an influencer’s, and cutting exercise. A slip does not reset the counter to zero; three days of “I slipped so I quit” does. Fix the next meal, not your worth.

Action plan day 1 → day 14. Day 1: TDEE + deficit + protein target. Day 2: menu + groceries + take out of the house whatever makes automatic snacking too easy (if you judge that useful). Days 3–7: execute without perfectionism. Day 8: weigh-in, adjust one single thing if needed. Days 9–14: solidify the routine (same meal times, same grocery ritual) and decide whether you continue on the same deficit.

Once you have held these two weeks, switch to the lasting method (sleep, social flexibility, plateaus) rather than a new drastic challenge. The start is there to prove the frame is sustainable — not to lose everything as fast as possible.

Daizu accompanies you as a nutrition program with tracking: menus on your loss target, protein preserved, sorted groceries, slips logged by photo. It is not a medical device; in case of illness, a large loss, or a difficult relationship with food, a professional remains essential. The app mainly removes the “what am I eating” load so you can hold past day 14.
