Cutting starter guide: the first 14 days

A cut is not “eating less and hoping.” It is a deliberate deficit while you try to keep muscle and strength — often with a physique, a photo, or a sports deadline in mind. The first fourteen days are for installing the frame before hunger and plateaus push you toward extremes.

A useful difference from general weight loss: here, the priority is not only the number on the scale, it is body composition. You accept a slow loss (often 0.3 to 0.5% of body weight per week) to protect performance. A moderate deficit of 300 to 500 kcal under TDEE is the starting point; below that, you often gain fatigue more than definition.

Protein first: aim for the high end of the range, around 1.8 to 2.2 g/kg. On a cut, that is the safety net for muscle. Keep carbs around workouts rather than cutting them to zero — session energy and mood depend on them. Fats stay present (hormones, fullness) without monopolizing the calorie budget.

A realistic typical day: three solid meals + possibly a protein snack. Each plate carries a clear protein, a volume of vegetables for fullness, and a starch sized according to whether you train or not. Hunger in the first days is normal; if it becomes disabling, slightly raise vegetables and water before “breaking” the deficit in weekend chaos.

Groceries and prep: a cut dies in empty cupboards. Prepare cooked proteins, portioned starches, ready-to-use vegetables, yogurts or fromage blanc, and one framed treat meal in the week (not a surprise “cheat” on Saturday night). Cardio can accompany, but it does not replace the food deficit or strength training.

Useful tracking: a weekly weigh-in, waist or photos every two weeks, and above all strength in the gym. If you lose 2 kg but your loads collapse, the deficit is too aggressive or protein/sleep are missing. Log slips without moralizing — one evening does not ruin a cut; three weeks without a frame does.

Classic mistakes: a deficit of −800 kcal “to go faster,” zero carbs from week 1, dropping tracking at the first water plateau, and comparing yourself to filtered transformations in 21 days. Retention and stress distort the scale; the trend over 14 days matters more than one bloated morning.

Action plan day 1 → day 14. Day 1: TDEE, a 300–500 kcal deficit, protein target. Day 2: the week’s menu + groceries. Days 3–7: train normally, sleep, hydrate, do not cut out an entire food “because it’s a cut.” Day 8: weight + strength review. Days 9–14: adjust a single parameter if needed (starch portion outside sessions), and anchor the treat meal in the plan rather than in guilt.

Daizu serves here as a nutrition program with tracking: a cutting goal, calibrated menus, protein preserved, a grocery list, photo scan of the unexpected. It is not a medical device or competition coaching — it is the organization that keeps a cut from becoming an improvised diet by day 4.
